Rotor Repair, Pole Rebuilding & Generator Refurbishment
Our dedicated Rotor Pole Center is one of the few facilities in the western United States built specifically for salient pole rebuilding and rotor repair — strip, re-laminate, recoil, and re-insulate hydro and synchronous machine poles, plus full generator refurbishment from our Magna and Draper, Utah shops.
What our team handles
in-house.
Rotor Inspections
Visual, electrical, and dimensional inspection of complete rotors with documented condition reports.
Rotor Rewinds
Full rotor and field coil rewinds for hydro and synchronous machines, with VPI or upgraded insulation systems.
Pole Replacement
Manufacture and install replacement salient poles for legacy and current hydro generators.
Pole Insulation Repair
Strip, re-insulate, and re-test damaged pole insulation using modern Class F / Class H resin systems.
Pole Face Restoration
Machine, weld-repair, and re-profile pole faces to restore air gap and rotor geometry.
Retaining Ring Service
Inspection, NDT, removal, repair, and reinstallation of retaining rings on synchronous and turbo generators.
Collector & Connection Rings
Collector ring repair, slip ring resurfacing, and connection ring repair or replacement.
Rotor Balancing
Low- and high-speed dynamic balancing for rotors, armatures, and complete generator rotors.
Rotor Refurbishment
Complete rotor refurbishment including amortisseur (damper) winding repair, hub work, and full reassembly.
Testing & QA
Surge, hi-pot, RSO, and impedance testing on every pole and rotor before shipment, with documented test reports.

Rotor & pole rebuilding questions, answered.
Q.01What rotor repair and pole rebuilding work does the Rotor Pole Center handle?
+
Complete salient pole rebuilding — strip, re-laminate, recoil, and re-insulate hydro and synchronous machine poles to OEM or upgraded specifications. We also perform field coil winding, amortisseur (damper) winding repair, and complete generator refurbishment for vertical and horizontal machines.
Q.02Where is the Rotor Pole Center located?
+
Our dedicated rotor pole shop operates from Sidewinders' Utah facilities in Magna and Draper. We are one of the few facilities in the western United States built specifically for salient pole rebuilding and rotor refurbishment.
Q.03Can you reverse-engineer field coils for legacy hydro machines?
+
Yes. We routinely manufacture replacement field coils, salient poles, and amortisseur components for legacy hydro and synchronous machines where OEM drawings or spares are no longer available.
Q.04What testing is performed on rebuilt poles before shipment?
+
Every pole gets surge, hi-pot, RSO, and impedance testing before it leaves the shop. Test reports ship with the pole and we can witness customer or third-party inspection on request.
Q.05Do you offer insulation system upgrades during a rotor refurbishment?
+
Yes. Class F and Class H upgrades using modern resin systems, VPI processing, and upgraded turn and ground insulation are standard options during generator refurbishment.
